Based in Paris, Galerie Papillon celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2019. Abstraction vs. figuration? Language or material? Script or chance? Two young artists, Linda Sanchez (b. 1983, exhibited in ‘Futur, ancien, fugitif’ at Palais de Tokyo, Paris) and David Raffini (b. 1982, awarded with Florian Pugnaire the 17th Fondation d’entreprise Ricard Prize in 2015), make no secret of the fact that their practices reveal the full extent of these questions that have affected painting and sculpture for centuries. Putting these artists together creates a highly contrasting, face-to-face exhibition between two approaches: a very dense painting that is also very intellectual through its process in dialogue, juxtaposed with very minimal works often resulting from a repeated gesture.
