NOME presents recent works from Navine G. Khan Dossos’s recent research about women’s rights and media coverage of the Jamal Khashoggi killing. The works on cardboard (‘Bulk Targets 1-100’, 2017), the works ‘Pink Discretionary Command’ and ‘Grey Discretionary Command’ are all parts of the series ‘Shoot the Women First’. The paintings in this series reflect on the role of women regarded by society as both perpetrators and victims of violence. Jamal Khashoggi was assassinated at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul. In the days and weeks that followed, this story changed shape, with details being retold as if in kaleidoscopic prism: always the same elements, but in different compositions. The ongoing ‘Modular Paintings’ series follows the unfolding of this story.
