Mojtaba Amini is an artist who explores social and political issues through art. In his ‘Tears in town’ series, Amini deals with the everyday and public space of the street in tense situations. The masked, exasperated, screaming figures are altered images of street protesters that Amini has translated on the coarse, scratchy, and worn-away surface of sandpaper. Buried into each other, the layered figures of the series represent solidarity that can reoccur at different times and in different places.
Based on charcoal pens, ‘Joint’ is a chandelier Made of coal that does not illuminate, but emits darkness instead. His chandeliers are similar to those that hang on religious places to illuminate the space; chandeliers that are reminiscent of torture devices.
