In 2008, Olivier Meessen and Jan De Clercq established a new platform dedicated to contemporary art in Brussels. The gallery occupies three floors in a house built in 1911, where both solo exhibitions and curated group shows are organized. Publishing catalogues and editions in close collaboration with the artists is also part of the Meessen De Clercq mission.
Maarten Vanden Eynde investigates objects surrounding us, ranging from the origin of different materials and the contexts in which they are extracted, transported and transformed, to the remains after they are no longer in use. He pays specific attention to raw materials that can be placed in the context of transatlantic trade, such as copper, but also looks into other materials that have come to dominate our world, such as plastics.
